Every customer is important to us. Our goal is to be the fish market where you know the person behind the counter and we know you. We are proud to offer old-fashioned counter service and at the same time have a modern style and look for today. Our plant is clean, state of the art, and regularly inspected by the local and federal health departments.

We realize that our customers make a special trip to shop at City Fish Market because they are shopping for something special to prepare for their family or guests. We are dedicated to, and work hard to provide you with a wide variety of fresh seafood along with prompt, courteous service.

Counter Service

City Fish Market means service. The retail counter is always well stocked with a wide variety of items to fill your special needs. Every week you will find the same favorites on display. We strive to make the retail counter a shopper's delight by selecting only the very best seafood and providing prompt, personal service by one of our friendly clerks. No one has to run into the back room or cooler to find the best fish; the best fish is right in front of the customer on display in the fish case.

Lobster Is Our Specialty

With our 5,000 gallon lobster holding tank, we are able to maintain a large supply of lively lobsters capable of filling anyone's order. You may choose from the popular one pound lobster alI the way up to our jumbo lobsters; these jumbos range in size from 6# to 12#. So the next time you're thinking lobster, think City Fish.

Always Available Favorites

Flat Fish Fillets - You may select from the three most popular flounders or flatfish: the mild flavor of North Atlantic Greysole, delicious Yellowtail Flounder or the always delightful Lemonsole. Each of these favorites may be baked, broiled, stuffed or fried.

Haddock and Cod - The old New England Haddock is in the showcase along with our mainstay, the fresh Atlantic Cod. These are delicious and have filled dozens of cookbooks with so many interesting recipes.

Swordfish - This favorite is available fresh all year long. In season, we have native Swordfish from the North Atlantic. With the advent of modern packaging and jet freighters, we now have fresh swordfish available overnight from far away fishing grounds such as Hawaii.

Scallops - Deep Sea Scallops are another mainstay. Harvested from the channel of Georges Bank off Cape Cod and brought to us daily.

Specialty Fish, What do you have different?

You will find a wide variety of specialty and seasonal fish at our retail counter. For a change of pace, you might try Mahi Mahi, Arctic Char, Ocean Perch, Red Snapper, Monkfish, Escolar, Cape Cod Bay Scallops or fresh Crabmeat.

Seasonal Favorites

These seasonal items are available for a limited period of time. Soft Shell Crabs are in season from April to September with a peak production during the month of May. Cape Cod and Nantucket Bay Scallops, these tender, delicious scallops are in season from October to March. Block Island Bluefish is running during the summer months; May through September. Delicious Striped Bass are available by catch quotas; when a quota has been filled the fishery is closed. Shad and Shad Roe; this season begins in March with early catches from Virginia and continues until our season ends with the Connecticut River production, April 15th through early June.

Aqua Culture

Aqua culture has made available a wide variety of favorites at very reasonable prices. Nearly 33% of all seafood is now farm raised and by the year 2030 that figure is expected to reach 50%. Trout was the first domestic fish to be raised and is now followed by catfish and tilapia. Many nations are raising salmon, scallops, shrimp, perch, char, halibut, cod, oysters and clams - these are but a few of the many varieties being grown. Aqua culture will ensure us of a steady supply of healthy fish at reasonable prices for many years into the future.

Farm Raised Salmon - The Truth

A landmark report released by Positive Aquaculture Awareness clearly demonstrates how activists and the media have misled the public into thinking farmed salmon contain high levels of contaminants. This report looks back on numerous inaccurate media stories about high levels of contaminants in farmed salmon, and how those stories can be traced to flawed studies by Michael Easton and by the Environmental Working Group. Journalists failed to give these studies a through, critical review and in so doing misled the public away from farmed salmon, one of the most healthy, nutritious foods you can eat. With this report we want to make it clear once and for all that there is absolutely no scientific basis for the allegation that farmed salmon contains high levels of contaminants. For a complete copy of this report refer to the PAA's website.

Responsible Fishing - Our Resource

The past ten years have witnessed a great deal of change in the harvesting and management of our natural resource. I want to emphasize our resource, this great natural resource of fish stocks belongs to all of the people. Be aware of catchy phrases such as "Ban the Nets," "Give Swordfish a Break," "Pass on Sea Bass," or "Over Fished." Most often these are circulated by, well funded, special interest groups that have much to gain at the expense of the consumer. Many have used this negative publicity to shut down commercial fishing. Our natural resource is now being managed and fished more responsibly than ever. Management plans are assuring as that fish stocks are being rebuilt to ensure sustainable fish harvest for us and for future generations.
