Less Fish – Higher Prices

Less Fish – Higher Prices Starting May 1, 2010 new fishing regulations have gone into effect. These sweeping changes have resulted in a major decrease in the catch. At some ports, fish landings have dropped as much as 70%-80%. Fishermen are completely confused and frustrated with these new regulations. Some fishermen say they are afraid to go out and reach their quotas on several species, such as pollock, which have been set so low that fishermen will quickly be forced to stop ALL fishing. The new regulations require ALL fishing to be stopped when the quota has been reached on any single specie. With less fish coming to market, the consumer will being faced with less fish to purchase and at higher prices.
